Identity, a 240-page monograph, signage, and an editorial website for a heritage architecture practice.
An architecture practice with a quiet, deeply held view about heritage — and an identity that leaned on rendered visuals and a bold sans. Confident, but at odds with the practice’s actual character.
We rebuilt the system around archive photography, plan drawings, and a typographic voice that listens before it speaks. The brand became a quiet authority.
A tightly-spaced italic display serif anchors the mark, with the kern between letters tuned by hand. Used small it reads as gravity; used large, as restraint.
A 240-page monograph, a stationery system, brushed-brass office signage, and an editorial website that treats each project as a quiet, full-page photograph.
Northern Stone won three heritage commissions in the year following launch — the new identity travels with their bids.
